HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Hopkinsville firefighters braved flooded areas on Saturday to rescue people trapped in vehicles after entering high water.
The flash flood warning for Christian County was lifted Sunday morning, following a full day of non-stop rain. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Hopkinsville Public works reported dozens of roads affected by flooding throughout the day on Feb. 15.

That evening, HFD rescued two individuals near Fort Campbell Boulevard and Harry Berry Road whose car was overcome by floodwater, leaving them trapped. Firefighters were able to successfully rescue them using their tower truck, and no injuries were sustained, according to Deputy Fire Marshal Nathan Stewart.
“Flooding like this presents a significant challenge for HFD,” Stewart told Christian County Now. “It forces us to adapt to road closures and find alternate routes to ensure we can respond to emergencies safely and effectively.”
Throughout the day, HFD responded to several incidents throughout the county involving vehicles and floodwaters. Even as floodwaters peaked into the night, no injuries were reported as a result of the weather.
As the water recedes and a thin layer of snow covers the area, Christian County residents are further advised to use caution when driving. Drivers should avoid attempting to pass through high water, and bridges and minor roads may experience ice accumulation.
“Motorists are asked to use caution if they are out,” said a news release from KYTC District 2. “Flood waters across the district have not receded since last night’s rainfall, but snow may make flooded areas hard to spot. If you must be out, be sure to check road conditions before traveling, watch for road signs and proceed with caution.”
