HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A Cold Weather Advisory has been issued for Christian County by the National Weather Service through Feb. 20 at 10 a.m.

Waking up on Wednesday morning, the wind chill in Christian County is causing single digit temperatures. With inches of snow covering the ground from overnight, temperatures are only expected to rise to 23 degrees, with 20 mph winds predicted.

Tonight, there is a 20% chance of more snow before 10 p.m., according to NWS in Paducah. It will continue dropping to seven degrees, with wind chill in the negatives.

Road conditions and closures

Early Wednesday morning, the Christian County Sheriff’s Office shared that roads are very hazardous saying, “We are strenuously suggesting no travel today if you don’t have to get out. For those that do have to leave the comfort of your home, please drive slowly and with care.”

Snowplows from Hopkinsville Public Works and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have been dispatched across the city and the county to restore road conditions as quickly as possible.

Government offices throughout Christian County are closed due to snow, including Parks and Recreation facilities, the library, and the municipal center. CCPS students will report remotely. Residents are encouraged to contact businesses ahead of time to confirm openings.

Hopkinsville Solid Waste Enterprise is delaying services and will be running extended hours with extra routes when they are able to resume collections.
