OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Residents of Avondale Road in Oak Grove voiced their concerns of a new subdivision being developed called Echo Ridge at the Oak Grove City Council meeting Tuesday night.

Echo Ridge is set to be developed from Avondale Road to Arctic Avenue with construction beginning later this year. There will be multiple phases of the project with the first phase including the construction of 50 homes. Oak Grove Public Works Director Brian Ahart, previously shared with Christian County Now that the initial phase will span approximately 15 acres.

Christine Kuba, a resident on Avondale Road expressed her concerns and those of other residents regarding the potential traffic the new homes will bring to the area. “These homes are going to increase the traffic on Avondale and cars already speed on this street, but the police can’t be there all the time,” said Kuba. “That is just not feasible.”

Kuba also referred to the plat map for the development, which shows that the only exit includes travelling through Avondale Road. “From my count there are 14 children under the age of seven on that street. I am the grandma of the street, and I am just worried sick about losing one of our littles,” she continued.

Two other residents also spoke saying they were unaware this development was even happening until recently. Kuba posed the solution for the city to apply for a sidewalk grant so children and families in the area will at least have somewhere to walk safely. Mayor Jackie Oliver agreed she will look into grant options for the residents.
