HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Harsh graffiti with profanity has been on display at the Hopkinsville Skate Park for months. People on social media have been pointing out the spray paint at least since May, but it is unknown exactly how long the inappropriate words have been there.
“We have been aware of the issue, and the graffiti was treated with the appropriate chemicals last week,” said Rachel Sanders with Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation. “Unfortunately, there are still visible traces of the vandalism, so it will have to be painted over.”
Increased patrols of the area should also help prevent graffiti in the future, according to Chris Jung who works for the City of Hopkinsville. He hopes people will be respectful of the space after it is cleaned.
The park had its groundbreaking back in 2016 and has consistently been a popular spot. It spreads over 10,000 square feet and features ramps, quarter pipes, decks and more. The sign when you enter the park says the area is under video surveillance, but the Hopkinsville Police Department said it has not received any recent reports of spray painting or defacing of property.
