HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Taylor and Dakota Figueroa are hoping to grow the downtown nightlife scene by establishing Lucky You Bar in Hopkinsville. Fully renovating an old woodworking studio, the duo plans to create a “live music kick-back destination” at 1004 South Main Street. The business partners are both best friends and sisters by marriage who plan to make their dream bar a reality with the support of the community.

“Taylor and I have always shared the same love for dive bars,” Dakota told Christian County Now. “To me, they’ve always been such a neighborhood staple. It’s like where people go and everyone knows your name.”

When construction is finished, they hope to have a 20-seater bar top, pool tables, darts, a dance floor, and private lounge. They both view the term “dive bar” as a positive label, viewing it as a place to make connections in the community. To introduce themselves to the city, on Nov. 14 they hosted a pop-up downtown to get people excited and begin forming relationships with future customers.

“People want a place to go before dinner, to go after dinner and that’s kind of our favorite thing we do as a family,” said Taylor. Dakota’s vast experience travelling the country paired with Taylor’s experience as a bartender eventually led to the dream of opening Lucky You Bar. With the establishment of the new Downtown Entertainment District, they both felt it was finally the right time to go for it.

Their concept menu features signature cocktails like the Lucky in Kentucky with bourbon, ginger beer, mint and lime, along with beer, classic cocktails and more.

“No is not even an option,” said Dakota. “I can see the end result, it’s so vivid in my mind. Whatever obstacle we come across I will figure out a way…we are going to be a corner bar in Hopkinsville, Kentucky!”

Community support, timeline for opening

“It’s a little charming spot for sure,” said Taylor, explaining that the building is currently down to the bare bones. “Seeing what they have done with all of these buildings we have no doubt it’s going to fulfill all of the dreams we had when we first started.”

As of November, the building is in the very beginning stages of a renovation with plans for a major overhaul and the infusion of their signature style and Lucky You Bar branding. If all goes well, the owner of the building anticipates they should be able to open by spring of 2026.

They have already seen support from other downtown businesses in the entertainment district who have been willing to provide guidance and experience, acting as mentors to help them in the beginning stages.

“We have all of these people in our corner fighting for us, even when this dream was just a tiny little thought,” said Taylor. Dakota added, “They’re keeping us from learning the mistakes they have already made.”

During construction, they hope to host more meet and greet pop ups in the future. Meanwhile, they have merchandise available for sale on the Lucky You Bar website. Find updates about construction on their Facebook page.
