HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Several individuals were sworn in to become police officers and firefighters during the Oct. 21 Hopkinsville City Council meeting. Joined by a packed room of community members and family, these new recruits were celebrated for their commitment to extensive training.

First, Hopkinsville Police Chief Jason Newby welcomed in new Officer Michael Graham as he was sworn in by the Mayor Knight. Graham started his career as a public safety officer, also working as dispatcher before joining the police academy.

Following that, 12 men were sworn in to the Hopkinsville Fire Department from the Recruit Class 25-2, receiving their pins by family members. Payton Rogers with HFD told Christian County now that these new recruits will be spread out between four different stations in the city. Once the new Fire Station 5 has completed construction, some of them will be posted there as well.

“New recruitment is extremely important. This is a very demanding job, and we always look for the best of the best,” said Rogers. “All 12 recruits excelled in training and are ready to serve!” He further explained that the recruitment process included ten weeks and over 400 hours of training. The names of the new firefighters who were sworn in are as followed.

Other recognitions were presented by HFD including the promotion of Firefighter/EMT Nathan Stewart to the rank of Lieutenant. Chief Futrell along with Mayor Knight also formally recognized recent retiree Engineer Mike Wilson who served the city of Hopkinsville for 30 years.
