HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Fort Care held their Honor Package Grocery Giveaway on Oct. 23, with the goal of assisting families during the ongoing government shutdown. The nonprofit ended the giveaway with close to no food left after stocking up nearly 40 pallets of products for distribution.
Around 5,100 vehicles drove through Fryar Stadium on Fort Campbell to receive food from dozens of volunteers comprised of soldiers, veterans, and civilians. A variety of grocery items were available for distribution on a first come first serve basis, with cars lining up early and waiting for extended periods of time due to the massive turnout.

While Fort Care regularly organizes food distributions for military families, soldiers, and veterans, founder Ron Fahy moved up plans for their next giveaway to further assist amid the financial uncertainty of the government shutdown that was initiated on Oct. 1.
Food donations were made possible thanks to contributions from Walmart in Oak Grove, Countryside Fruit and Grocery, Feeding America First, Oak Ridge Country Store, Oak Grove Gaming, and YAIPAK along with support from the Garrison Chaplin and staff.
