HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Christian County Military Affairs Committee distributed 750 free turkeys to military service members and families ahead of Thanksgiving.

Over a dozen volunteers unpacked, and hand delivered frozen turkeys to each vehicle in frigid, wet weather during the Seasons of Giving Turkey Giveaway. A fast-moving line was set up by the equestrian center at Oak Grove Gaming, Racing, and Hotel on Nov. 20 for anyone with a valid military ID. Volunteers included MAC Director Shannon Lane, Oak Grove and Hopkinsville mayors, city and county officials, University Heights Academy, Knights of Columbus, and other volunteers.

The distribution was scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., but with a large number of cars already on site, dozens of boxes of turkeys were already gone by 10:45 a.m.

According to the MAC, this event was organized as a way of saying thank you to local federal employees and military for all they do in the community. To further extend their gratitude throughout the year, military affairs also facilitates an annual Hams for Heroes event where they distribute hams to families ahead of Easter.
