HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A winter storm is expected to come through the Quad State region this Friday and Saturday, with an uncertain amount of snow accumulation expected to impact Hopkinsville. Due to these weather predictions, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2 plans to begin the process of pretreating state highways.
“It is too early for exact details, but slippery travel and winter weather impacts are becoming more likely,” said a statement from the National Weather Service in Paducah.
KYTC District 2 snow and ice crews will begin applying a salt brine mixture to roadways around lunchtime on Jan. 20, starting with C-Routes and progressing up the priority list to primary A-Routes by the end of the week. A news release from KYTC urges motorists to use caution when snow and ice crews are present, as these vehicles will be moving slowly during the application process.
Early predictions indicate a 60-70% chance that the Hopkinsville-Christian County area will get at least one inch of snow as arctic air also arrives. A more detailed prediction will be available as the weekend nears. Wind chill values are also expected to drop into the single digits along with the snow.
