CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – As of Jan. 21, traffic on the southbound bridge at the 7.5-mile marker on I-169 will be restricted while it is reinforced by road crews. Single unit vehicles will be permitted as well as semi tractor trailers up to 36 tons.
A total of seven state highway bridges in multiple counties will have weight restrictions as a result of a Kentucky Transportation Cabinet re-evaluation of structures across the Commonwealth determined the need for repairs.
“Engineers performed federally required recalculations of load ratings to check for a particular type of stress, called shear stress, on support beams,” said a news release from KYTC. “The bridges susceptible to that stress must be posted with temporarily reduced weight limits until they can be reinforced.”
Family vehicles such as cars, pickup trucks, vans and SUV’s will not be impacted by these restrictions. It will however limit 40-ton trucks and other larger delivery vehicles. KYTC says plans for repairs are already in action so that restrictions can be lifted as soon as possible.
