CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – On Sunday deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s office conducted a traffic stop and executed a search warrant at the Rodeway Inn, leading to drug trafficking charges for a Hopkinsville man.
Around 12:30 p.m. on March 1, a patrolling deputy followed two vehicles seen leaving the Rodeway Inn on Fort Campbell Boulevard. An arrest report from CCSO says a traffic stop was initiated of the suspect’s vehicle after the deputy noted the driver seemed to be avoiding the patrol car.
Identified as 41-year-old Mory Burse of Hopkinsville, the suspect was unable to produce proof of insurance of the vehicle and disclosed that the vehicle did not belong to him. He was placed under arrest for this traffic violation and a search was initiated. A baggie with cocaine was located in his pocket, and firearm was found in the center console of the vehicle. Burse is a convicted felon and is not legally permitted to own a firearm, according to CCSO.
A search warrant for his room at the Rodeway Inn was obtained. A search yielded several bags for drug resale, a large quantity of synthetic marijuana known as spice, a scale, and a large amount of ammunition all in a black bag. Deputies said a plastic bag with a small amount of marijuana was also found, and located in the bedside tables was a handgun, pills, another scale, and a “pay/owe” sheet of paper.
The suspect was arrested later that evening and is being charged with Possession of Controlled Substance-2nd Offense (Cocaine), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Handgun by a Convicted Felon, Possession of Marijuana, Trafficking in Synthetic Drugs-1st Offense (enhancement), Prescription Controlled Substance Not in Proper Container, Deliver/Manufacture Drug Paraphernalia and other traffic offenses. Burse was transported to the Christian County Jail.
