HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Fire staff with Land Between the Lakes were conducting multiple prescribed burns on Saturday which drew smoke to Hopkinsville and Christian County.
On March 21 starting at 10 a.m. LBL had a 1,105-acre prescribed burn west of Brandon Spring, where smoke was anticipated to move east. They also had a 1,100-acre prescribed burn in the Prior Creek area along the Woodlands Trace just south of the Homeplace, according to a statement from LBL.

A NOAA Dispersion Model shows that the projected path of the smoke is heading toward southern Christian County. The Hopkinsville Fire Department shared that smoke blanketing the city is likely a result of these burns.
LBL says the burns are intended to reduce leaf litter and promote wildlife habitats. People in the immediate area should be cautious of fire personnel and equipment.
