FORT CAMPBELL, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Starting on April 6, shoppers at the Commissary on Fort Campbell will be charged for each plastic and paper bag that they require during checkout.
The change was announced in a statement from Fort Campbell on March 23. They shared that this pivot comes in an effort to reduce waste and support more sustainable shopping practices. After the change is in effect, plastic bags will cost $0.05 and paper bags will cost $0.10.
“This change will allow the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) to continue to offer its eligible patrons significant savings while strengthening its fiscal stewardship and reducing operating expenses,” said a news release from DeCA Corporate Communications.
This change impacts every military Commissary and is not exclusive to Fort Campbell. Patrons are encouraged to bring reusable bags when shopping which will be available for purchase in store and through their delivery app. Reusable bags can be presented at check out for use.
