HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – In honor of Child Abuse Prevention and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Hopkinsville Police officers are setting a lofty fitness goal during the Thin Blue Run on April 18. During this run, participating officers will run the length of Christian County, totaling around 34 miles.

“This is more than a run. It’s a chance for our community to come together in a visible and powerful way to stand against abuse,” says HPD. The intention behind the run is honor the stories of victims and protect more people in the future.

The daylong run will kick off at 7 a.m. at in north Christian County near the Hopkins County Line, and they will make their way south through downtown Hopkinsville, ending in Oak Grove to raise funds and awareness for abuse prevention in Hopkinsville and Christian County.

Community involved in race, finish line ceremony

While only officers are participating in the raise, there are a few ways the community can get involved. At 10:45 a.m., community members are invited to wear blue and participate in a portion of the run by intercepting with officers as they pass by the Hopkinsville Police Department. People can meet at the department and walk with runners and cheer them on as they make their way to Founders Square downtown.

As the officers continue on, residents can hang out at Founders Square for food, activities, bounce houses and community fun. Hot dogs and burgers will be served along with popcorn and snow cones. All proceeds from activities will go towards Sanctuary, Inc. and the Pennyrile Child Advocacy Center. Before the race, the department has already raised over $10,000.

A finale will be held at Valor Hall in Oak Grove at 3 p.m. as officers make their way across the finish line. There will be a brief ceremony and check presentation to the beneficiaries and their sponsor. The entire run will be live streamed on the Hopkinsville Police Department’s Facebook page.
