HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Little Free Library system was designed to make books accessible and inspire readers by placing library boxes throughout cities. The boxes in Hopkinsville were not in the best condition, so the Imagination Library decided to revive them.

Nickie Gaffney with the Hopkinsville-Christian County Imagination Library says the process began when she saw the poor condition of the boxes on North Drive, and near the library in Hopkinsville. After collaborating and working through details with the Hopkinsville Public Library, Literacy Council and Parks and Recreation, Gaffney was able to take over responsibility for the libraries.

On Oct. 22, Gaffney and her husband installed the brand-new libraries at Little River Park, and at the Riverwalk Trailhead off of North Dr. “I’m so excited about the community using these gorgeous libraries! We are so proud of them,” says Gaffney.

Eve Hudson, who works at the Hopkinsville Library, was recruited to paint the boxes with whimsical art. Eve is known in the community for leading Sip and Paints and has helped the Imagination Library design window displays in the past.

The libraries are now stocked with free books for the public to take. It is also the perfect place to donate a previously loved book.
