HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Ahead of Memorial Day, the public is invited to help lay flags in Hopkinsville to honor fallen soldiers.
On May 23, volunteers will be at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West on Fort Campbell Boulevard bright and early to place miniature American flags at grave markers. The public is invited to assist starting at 8:30 a.m. Over 5,200 veterans and family members have been interred at this cemetery, which expands over 99 acres. Each one of the markers will have a flag placed by it, rain or shine.
This Hopkinsville location is one of five state veteran cemeteries in Kentucky that were all established in 2004, according to the Kentucky State Veterans Cemeteries website. Normal business hours for visitation are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays are reserved for families and loved ones of those interred to visit in peace and quiet.
All flags will be collected on May 30 at 8:30 a.m. For more information call 270-889-6106.
