OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – In the past couple of weeks, the Oak Grove Police Department has seized a notable amount and variety of narcotics through different arrests, with the chief of Police sharing recent crime statistics.

Police Chief Victor Lynch presented this information during the June 17 Oak Grove City Council meeting. First, Lynch detailed the amount of narcotics that were recently seized in the city stemming from multiple, unrelated arrests since the last council meeting on June 2.

  • 5.8 pounds of marijuana
  • 36 grams of heroin
  • 15 mushroom plants
  • 23 bars of Xanax
  • 2.1 grams of fentanyl
  • 5.4 ounces of cocaine
  • 8.5 ounces of meth
  • 3.5 ounces of unknown drugs
  • Nearly 250 miscellanous pills

“If you think it’s not out there, it’s out there. People just have a way of hiding it,” said Lynch about drugs on the streets. Several of the arrests involving drug seizures did result in felony charges.

In the short time period since the last city council meeting, Lynch says officers have also responded to just over two dozen disturbances that required 18.5 hours of total work from police. These types of calls can range from arguments to disorderly conduct and domestic violence. In addition, Oak Grove PD has also reported an increase in vehicle break ins.

“We are out there working hard doing what we can do,” he said. A total of 20 arrests have occurred in Oak Grove in the past two weeks in a city with a population of only around 7,800 people.

Lynch added that he has appreciated a recent increase in engagement between the police department and the community. This includes officers speaking to residents in neighborhoods, stopping by lemonade stands and getting to know residents better.
