Updated 2:09 p.m. More details about the accident have been proved by Hopkinsville Fire/EMS, who responded to the scene alongside emergency responders from Oak Grove.

The accident involved two tractor trailers, and occurred around 12:30 p.m. One adult male patient required extrication from the vehicle and suffered a severe leg injury. He was transported to a helicopter and was flown to a Nashville hospital for treatment.

Officials anticipate the accident will take several hours to clear.

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has reported a wreck on the interstate that is impacting traffic Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred on I-24 near mile marker 91 in Oak Grove. Both the east and westbound lanes of traffic are shut down at this time. This portion of the interstate currently operates at with single lane traffic in both directions, with barriers in place to separate east and westbound vehicles.

As of 1:20 p.m., traffic is still impacted. KYTC is urging motorists to use an alternate route.
