HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – 16 public high school students have been named as new members of the 2026-2027 Commissioner’s Student Advisory Council, with Christian County High School senior Rhianna Harrell chosen to join to make her voice heard on a statewide level.
CSAC was established to gather student feedback on critical issues impacting students and schools. The council connects students with Kentucky Department of Education staff to develop ideas to strengthen student voice and transform education, according to a news release from KDE.

“Her willingness to share her perspective and advocate for students will make her a valuable contributor to the work of the Kentucky Department of Education,” said CCPS Superintendent Chris Bentzel about the appointment. “We are confident that Rhianna will represent our school, our district, and the Commonwealth with professionalism and distinction. We congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition and look forward to the positive impact she will make through her service.”
The group meets regularly with Commissioner of Education Robbie Fletcher, both in person and virtually, to discuss how decisions made at the state level are affecting students. Approximately 70 students applied for a spot on this year’s council.
The newly selected members will serve for the 2026-2027 school year and, if eligible, will have the option to serve again in the fall of 2027.
