HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – As nearly 2,000 students prepare to consolidate at the new Christian County High School in a matter of weeks, teachers are also preparing to merge together amid ongoing hiring efforts ahead of the school year.
The Christian County Board of Education’s general fund is currently providing salaries for 104 teaching positions at the new CCHS. This number does not include special education and other teaching positions that are grant funded. Previously, the old Christian County High School, Hopkinsville High School and Gateway Academy had a combined 118 teaching positions that were funded by the district.
Recruiting process by CCPS
Recruiting for this school year began well before summer, according to CCPS Director of Communications Johnna Brown. She said, “Our teams start visiting college campuses and regional job fairs in March and April to connect with new graduates and experienced educators.”
She explained that teacher staffing typically fluctuates each school year as people retire, resign and relocate, or contracts expire over the summer months. Enrollment shifts may also lead to a change in staffing before the school year.
With the first day of school rapidly approaching on Aug. 19, the district anticipates continuous hiring efforts to fill any vacant positions. As of July 28, Brown said 10 positions remain open, although the hiring process is very fluid and she’s seen that number drop almost daily.
Jobs still available at Christian County High School
“This summer, CCPS hosted multiple hiring events, including two at the new Christian County High School, and the response was very positive with strong interest and several applicants moving through the hiring process,” Brown told Christian County Now.
Listed vacancies on their district website may not accurately reflect how many open positions there are as they wait for all onboarding requirements to be fulfilled before removing the listing. At the end of July, the CCPS website shows they are still looking to hire teachers for English, science, health/physical education, math, special education and freshman/senior seminar teachers at the new CCHS.
The Christian County High School Facebook page has shared multiple hiring announcements leading up to the first day of school as they introduce new administrators, staff and teachers.
