CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY – The Pennyroyal Arts Council is anchoring downtown Hopkinsville for the ultimate summer celebration, announcing “Ride Like the Wind – The Yacht Rock Experience” as the headlining performance for this year’s annual Hoptown Hopfest fundraiser.

Proceeds from the high-energy event will directly benefit the historic Alhambra Theatre, fueling its ongoing mission to bring world-class programming, youth educational arts access, and vibrant community traditions to the heart of Christian County.

For community members asking, “What exactly is Yacht Rock?”—the answer lies in the breezy, feel-good hits that ruled the airwaves in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It is the smooth, high-quality soft rock where every single chorus feels like an ocean breeze.

Ride Like the Wind – The Yacht Rock Experience brings these silky harmonies, lush keys, soaring sax solos, and tight musicianship to life with note-perfect renditions of the smoothest hits ever recorded. Audiences can expect to sing along to undeniable classics from legends like Christopher Cross, Michael McDonald, Steely Dan, Toto, Hall & Oates, the Doobie Brothers, and Kenny Loggins, including anthems like “Sailing,” “What a Fool Believes,” “Africa,” “Rich Girl,” “Peg,” and of course, the show’s namesake, “Ride Like the Wind.”

“Every performance feels like a sunset cruise with your best friends,” said Margaret Prim, Executive Director for the Pennyroyal Arts Council, Inc. “You don’t need an actual boat to enjoy Yacht Rock, you just need a love for great music, a cold beverage, and a desire to support the historic Alhambra Theatre. We are inviting everyone to slip on their boat shoes, pour something cold, and let the smooth take hold for a fantastic cause.”

Attendees are highly encouraged to lean into the theme by wearing their favorite “Yacht Rock Chic” attire, think captain’s hats, aviator sunglasses, linen shirts, and Hawaiian prints. Captain’s hats are optional, but smooth vibes are guaranteed.
