HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – This weekend the community has a chance to take tours of the new high school, attend a Gatsby themed gala in support of the library, audition for a beloved annual production and more.
Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser for DAV

- When: Friday, Aug. 28, 5-8 p.m.
- Cost: $10 per plate
- Details: The Southwestern Kentucky Military Affairs Committee will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser benefiting Disabled American Veterans Chapter 8. Each plate includes spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, dessert and a drink. Proceeds will support DAV programs and services for local veterans.

- Details: Friends of the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library will host a Roaring Twenties-themed evening inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby.” The event will feature Art Deco décor, live jazz music, Prohibition-era-inspired cocktails and a screening of the classic film. Proceeds will support library programs.

- Details: Pickleball at the Plex returns for two days of play, beginning Friday evening and continuing Saturday. Tournament entry is $50 per team or $25 per individual for one division. Casual play is available for $5.
Christian County High School Community Tours
- Where: Christian County High School
- When: Saturday, Aug. 29, 10 a.m.-noon
- Cost: Free
- Details: Community members are invited to tour the new Christian County High School, explore its four academies and learning spaces, and see how the campus was designed to prepare students for the future. No appointment is needed. Additional tour dates are Sept. 3 from 4-6 p.m. and Sept. 12 from 3-5 p.m.

- Details: The Christian County Literacy Council will partner with the Hopkinsville-Christian County Visitors Center for a monthly story hour featuring books and activities. Stories are generally geared toward elementary school-aged children, but the activities are open to all ages.
- Where: Alhambra Theatre, Hopkinsville
- When: Saturday, Aug. 29, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
- Details: Brooke Bailey Dance Addiction and the Pennyroyal Arts Council will host auditions for the community production of The Nutcracker. Local dancers are invited to audition. An audition form must be completed in advance and times are assigned based on age group.

- Details: Hairball will bring its high-energy tribute to 1980s arena rock to Oak Grove. The two-plus-hour show recreates hits from legendary acts including Van Halen, KISS, Mötley Crüe, Queen, Journey and Aerosmith.
