HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department pursued a stolen vehicle Saturday afternoon, resulting in a multi-city high speed chase and drug charges.

On Aug. 29 at 1 p.m., a Flock camera alerted HPD of a stolen vehicle passing through Clinic Drive and Fort Campbell Boulevard in Hopkinsville. The stolen license plate number was confirmed by ECC and officers headed toward the area. The vehicle was located at the parking lot of Walmart, and officers attempted a felony traffic stop when the vehicle began to leave. The driver was later identified as Samantha Salmon from Madison, Tennessee.

An arrest report from HPD says Salmon began to drive away, with two male passengers inside. A passenger in the back exited the moving vehicle as they began fleeing at a high rate of speed. The vehicle drove in the wrong direction on the northbound lane, driving over a curb and into the grass to get onto Fort Campbell Boulevard.

A pursuit was initiated and the vehicle drove erratically, disregarding traffic signs and driving on the wrong side of the road. The pursuit extended through the cities of Pembroke and Trenton reaching speeds over 100 mph for around 30 minutes. Ultimately, officers used a box maneuver resulting in a collision, and the driver and passenger were successfully detained on Dixie Beeline Highway in Todd County.

The passenger, Jonathan Johnson from Madison, Tennessee reportedly told Salmon to flee. He was also found to be in possession of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia during the arrest. Once taken to the Christian County Jail, a bag containing methamphetamine was found inside his mouth. He is being charged with receiving stolen property, drug trafficking, tampering with evidence, fleeing police, and promoting contraband along with out of state warrants.

Salmon was found to be a fugitive from another state with multiple warrants. She was additionally charged with recovery of stolen property, fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, criminal mischief and wanton endangerment.
