HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – At the end of August, Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation announced that they would begin the work to install a new fence around the existing Rotary Park playground. The project was initiated on Aug. 24 and lasted through the week.
Fully completed, the play structure now has 360 degrees of fence coverage, with two openings on either side. Parks and Recreation Superintendent Toby Hudson explained, “The newly installed fence around the playground has been planned from the beginning of the project. With this being a ‘universal’ playground designed for all children, this was part of a design feature that enhances the experience for parents and children alike.”
Foot traffic coming from the parking lot and restrooms will now go through a latched gate in the fence, with an additional opening in the fence on the path that leads to the pavilion behind the playground.
The playground was designed with accessibility and inclusivity in mind by Miracle Playgrounds. Spanning over 13,000 square feet, there are a dozen slides, swings, a merry-go-round, musical play equipment, and plenty of areas to climb and explore.
Due to the scope of the playground, there are multiple ways for kids to get on and off of the play structure, with the new fence providing better containment. The funding for the fencing was raised by a private donor committee, according to Hudson.
Opening in the spring of 2026, this city park includes walking paths as well as the playground and pavilion. It is currently open from dawn until dusk and the park is under video surveillance. The second phase of the park project, which has yet to have a timeline set, will include building another parking lot, an additional pavilion and a basketball court.
