OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Thousands of butterflies took to the sky Saturday as Oak Grove held its 18th annual Butterfly Festival at the War Memorial Walking Trail.
The festival brought families and visitors to Oak Grove for a day of activities centered around butterflies, nature and family entertainment. The event concluded with its annual live butterfly release, with approximately 3,000 butterflies released to the crowd.
Before the release, visitors had the opportunity to get an up-close look at live butterflies inside the Butterfly House. Other activities included a petting zoo, train rides, face painting, arts and crafts, balloon artists, a bubble zone and military static displays.
The festival also featured the Wheels of Agriculture Game Show, an interactive program that gave audience members a chance to participate while answering questions and learning about agriculture. Food trucks and other activities were available throughout the festival.
The Butterfly Festival has received several regional and international awards over the years. Most recently, the festival received a 2025 Kaleidoscope Award for Best Children’s Program. It also received a 2024 Kentucky Travel Industry Association Bronze Traverse Award.
