HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – An agriculture teacher at Hopkinsville Middle School will receive grant money to forward a gardening project with students on campus.

Aaron Stallons was awarded $1,500 from the Kentucky FFA Foundation through the “Better Days through Better Ways” grant, according to a public statement from Hopkinsville Middle. This money will be used to purchase equipment to start a raised bed garden in order to grow a variety of vegetables.

HMS says the produce from the garden will be used to fill a community box, where students will provide vegetables on a weekly basis to community members in an effort to combat hunger.

This competitive grant process through Kentucky FFA supports projects that are focused on developing and implementing sustainable hunger programs. This could range from gardens to raising chickens or growing and sustaining other food sources that the community can benefit from.

The funding is proved by the Mulhollem Cravens Foundation as a special project of the Kentucky FFA Foundation.
