HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Christian County Sheriff’s Office has announced this years dates for their Citizens Sheriff Academy. The 12-hour program focuses on educating students on the day-to-day job of a deputy in Christian County, all while having a little fun, according to a news release from CCSO.
This year the program will be two nights a week on Tuesday and Thursday for three weeks. The classes will be held from 6-8 p.m. beginning March 12 and running through March 28.
Applicants will be educated on the duties of the Sheriff’s Office, including traffic stops, equipment, law enforcement tactics, simulated court sessions, investigative techniques and more.
“The goal of the citizen’s academy is to engage with the people we serve and increase their knowledge about what we do, and how we do it. We believe education comes from understanding,” said Sheriff Tyler DeArmond.
The academy is limited to 20 participants and is free to Christian County residents. To apply, participants must be at least 18 years old, be a resident of Christian County, and undergo a background check. Applications can be picked up at Christian County Sheriff’s Office, 701 West 7 Street or on the Christian County Sheriff’s Office website.
All applications must be hand delivered to CCSO by March 8.
