HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Local restauranters Durango Mendez and Orlando Coxaj are opening the doors of Giovanni’s Steakhouse on Fort Campbell Boulevard after months of work. They aim to bring a high-end dining experience to Christian County with quality steaks and an upscale dining experience.

“It’s a lot of work. It took a long time and a lot of work,” Mendez told Christian County now, “but we are happy to serve people.”

Mendez and Coxaj are now juggling three restaurants in Hopkinsville. They’ve already tackled Mexican cuisine with Tacos El Papi and branched out to Italian food as the new owners of Novadell, but they have always been eager to own a steakhouse. Once Mendez got the idea rolling, he decided to name the new restaurant after his 3-year-old son, Giovanni.

Upscale experience

Quality steaks from Braveheart black angus beef and top of the line cooks are what Mendez is hoping will draw people in. Their Executive Chef Steven Barnes moved to the area from New York and has been working in the industry for over 23 years.

“We could do cheap steaks, but we don’t want to do that,” said Mendez when explaining their menu. He hopes people won’t be scared away by the price tag and come and give them a chance. “We’re trying to do the best; we’ve got all the steaks. We’ve got a tomahawk for two, we’ve got the New York strip, and ribeye.”

While they will be offering a wide variety of steaks, Mendez told Christian County Now the tomahawk is his personal favorite. Reservations are now open on the Giovanni’s Steakhouse website.
