HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Veterans from Christian County will be recognized and honored with Hometown Hero banners around Hopkinsville and the county. Over 100 banners will be displayed on light poles along main roads between the 4th of July and Veterans Day. The banners will feature a photo, name, and branch of service.
In a Fiscal Court meeting at the end of February, Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight presented the first banner. He explained it is a good way for people to honor the men and women in Christian County. The court agreed it will give people a sense of community pride.
Families can order a Hometown Hero banner for $150, which can be retired and given to the family at any time. People can submit a photo of a living or deceased loved one if the veteran has lived in Christian County, served in a branch of the military, was an honorably discharged, died in the line of duty, or is currently active duty.
Starting March 15, submissions can be made on the City of Hopkinsville website through September on a first come first serve basis.
