HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The new consolidated Christian County High School is on track for completion as school board members were notified of construction updates and bid changes at their meeting on Thursday night.

Alliance Corportation Construction Manager Kevin Hitchel confirmed the news during the meeting when he told those in attendance that the construction progress is coming along very well. Hitchel said his team had not run into major problems since kickstarting the development.

Hitchel added to his comments by saying the foundation of the high school has been started, which he showcased with photos of constructed corridors and hallway like spaces.

Meanwhile, Tim Geegan from Alliance Corporation brought three change orders before the board and it turns out, two of the three will result in project cost decreases. One change order consisted of both a credit and an expense, which ultimately resulted in a cost increase.

Geegan said that all three credits came from a duplication order including a ventilation system, duplicated shower and toilet and a kitchen exhaust canopy.

Board Chair, Tom Bell said that when it comes to change orders, some are positive, and some are negative. “They are all done to make sure that the building is the building we want and is done safely,” Bell said.

The board went on to approve all three change orders and continued to look at bid approvals for supplies needed for the upcoming school year.

District Financial Director Jessica Darnell brought several bids to the table including companies for bus fuel, antifreeze, mulch, copy paper, drug tests and concrete.

The board also approved a company to renovate a bus into an early learning bus. Darnell shared that the school could use this bus as a mobile classroom in the future.
