HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Hopkinsville-Christian County Downtown Farmers Market, situated at the intersection of Ninth Street and Main Street, is kicking off its 2024 season May 2. Century Oaks Farm is one of the returning vendors people can expect to see this season. For a second year, they will be offering a beautiful array of farm fresh produce.
The farm is owned by Liz and Phillip Meredith, a husband-and-wife team committed to farming. Liz told Christian County Now she will be offering a wide range of products this season for customers. “In the ground right now I have broccoli, kale, collards, mustards, spinach, peas, lettuce, tomatoes, and peppers,” said Liz.
Liz also said they are growing ginger and watermelons, and will offer potted vegetables, sunflowers and cut flowers. Although the farm is not certified organic, Liz uses organic practices including organic fertilizer and non-chemical pesticides.
Being someone who is not from this area, Liz loves being able to talk to people and develop new relationships. “I found it a great way to get to know people in the community,” said Liz. “It’s something I grew up doing and I always enjoyed it.”
Starting out
Century Oaks Farm was founded in 2022 and is located three miles north of Hopkinsville. Liz has almost a decade of experience in the vegetable seed industry and grew up in rural Pennsylvania working on her aunt’s farm. The couple moved to the Oak Grove area when Phillip got stationed at Fort Campbell. A couple years later, they settled on a 20-acre farm just North of Hopkinsville.
During their first year at the market, they were operating on a single acre. Slowly, they developed their farm by adding fruit trees, and blueberry bushes to be available for the community in the future. Liz says 2023 was truly their first season where she set up at the market and offered a weekend roadside stand.
Visit the Downtown Farmers Market on Thursdays from 4-7 p.m. to meet Liz and see the all the products from Century Oaks farm.
