HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Despite gray skies and rain, families still made their way to the 75th annual Western Kentucky State Fair in Hopkinsville on Saturday.

The fair, which opened Friday and continues through July 4 at the Western Kentucky State Fairgrounds, once again brought together a mix of agriculture, entertainment, food, rides, and family activities.

Visitors spent the afternoon enjoying carnival rides, games, the petting zoo and browsing vendor booths featuring handmade crafts, specialty items and products from local businesses. Food vendors across the fairgrounds served dozens food items including traditional favorites such as funnel cakes, corn dogs, and fresh-squeezed lemonade.

Saturday’s schedule featured several pageants, including the infant, baby and tiny tot competitions, along with the Ms./Mrs. Western Kentucky State Fair and Miss Western Kentucky State Fair pageants. The fair also hosted the annual 4-H and FFA swine show and cattle show.

The fair will continue with a variety of activities, including Faith and Family Night on Sunday, Arenacross on Monday, go-kart racing on Tuesday, a hot dog eating contest and comedy show on Wednesday, and trivia night and farm tractor and truck pulls on Thursday.

Additional livestock shows, including rabbit and poultry, goat and sheep competitions, are also scheduled throughout the week, along with 4-H, FFA and home and garden exhibits. The fair will wrap up July 4 with United Championship Wrestling, Mid-South truck and tractor pulls, and a fireworks display scheduled for 9:15 p.m.
