OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Andre Claybrooks Jr. is the founder of the Yellow Jackets, a new youth sports organization. He aims to expand his initiative in Oak Grove, inspired by his extensive background in football both as a player and a coach.
After launching this year, the Yellow Jackets jumped right into their football season. “My goal is to add soccer, baseball, girls volleyball, girls dance, and even summer camps,” Claybrooks told Christian County Now.
Currently, the organization holds practices at Bel-Aire Park in Clarksville and has recently secured Wades Way Park in Oak Grove as a new home field. Claybrooks intends to move all practices to Oak Grove by next year, aiming to offer a more convenient location for families who travel for games.
“With so much going on with the kids and just life in general, I think it will be a good way to help the kids, community, and the parents,” said Claybrooks. “It will give the kids something to do during the day and on the weekends.”
The group operates completely off of volunteers with a team of 25 volunteers and parents who assist in coaching over 130 kids. “I have been blessed with great parents and very respectful kids,” said Claybrooks.
He explains the organization is always looking for more volunteers and those interested in getting involved can contact him at 931-458-3127. “Hopefully we can really get this to take off,” he added.
Coming up, the Yellow Jackets will be hosting a Back 2 School Bash at Wades Way City Park on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. There will be a live kickball game at noon with school supply giveaways, bounce houses, music, food, and games.
