HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Winter has Christian County hit hard in 2025, leaving the school district to utilize six Non-Traditional Instruction days where students worked from home due to weather or hazardous conditions. With 10 NTI days allotted to CCPS, only four remain. If more are needed due to weather or other cause, the district may have to extend the school calendar.
“Student safety is the top priority, so when school is cancelled for reasons such as snow, a lot of consideration is made before determining to go to NTI, because in-person learning is always better,” said Johnna Brown with CCPS.
As students are eager for the last day of school, which is scheduled for May 23, Brown shares that the likelihood of using all of the remaining four NTI days is impossible to predict.
“The days can be used for a variety of reasons that impact schools district-wide; such as weather of any kind: snow, rain, flood, and even severe weather threat, or local situations or emergencies that impact the schools districtwide; loss of power, substantial water main break and more. So, the likelihood of use is just hard to say,” she said.
If all NTI days were used, the district would consider adding days to the school calendar. A recommendation on make-up days or adjustment to the school calendar would need to go before the Board of Education for them to approve how and what days were added. CCPS calendar shows that make-up days are scheduled for May 29 through June 13.
