HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Christian County Animal Shelter has officially reopened its doors for adoptions and intakes after dealing with a canine distemper case last week.
The shelter closed down unexpectedly on Thursday, June 6 after receiving an animal with distemper, a highly contagious viral disease. CCAS closed down to quarantine and create a safe space for incoming animals. With donations from Jennie Stuart Memorial Center and receiving cleaning supplies from the community, the shelter was able to reopen its doors as of Tuesday, June 11.
CCAS thanked Christian County for continually supporting them and credited the community for coming through for the animals.
During the closure, the shelter was also hosting their third annual Dog Days of Summer event which continued as normal as vendors and businesses set up shop outside. The shelter received just over $1200 to support their Get Em’ Done Program which gets stray dogs and cats neutered to avoid an influx of litters.
