HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – As county clerks from around Kentucky learn the new vehicle registration system, KAVIS, Christian County Clerk, Melinda Humphries urges citizens to come to the office prepared.
According to a news release, county clerks are processing an increasing number of transactions each day with the new KAVIS system, but there are still significant delays and problematic transactions. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has expressed their frustration and reportedly is working seven days a week to fix any problems.
Humphries explains bringing a driver’s license, the renewal notice along with the prior year’s registration, and proof of insurance can help with longer wait times as bugs in the KAVIS system are fixed.
March is reportedly the busiest month of the year for the motor vehicle department statewide, with currently over 963,000 renewal notices mailed to counties with a March 2024 expiration date, compared to 310,000 in January and 296,000 in February.
The Christian County Clerk Office, 511 South Main Street, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Renewals can also be made online on the KYTC’s website drive.ky.gov.
