HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Construction on the new Christian County High School is going well, as school board members were notified of updates and change orders at their meeting on Thursday night.

Alliance Corporation Project Manager Kevin Hitchel told the board they have started the foundations everywhere and are close to having the foundation 100% done for the building.

Hitchel also noted that this week they achieved two big milestones including concrete slab pouring for lower and some upper deck floors. “We are really excited about these things,” Hitchel said.

Along with concrete pouring, construction has worked on adding HVAC, electrical on the first floor, and more. The next step according to Hitchel is to work on adding joists to start the roof sometime next month.

Additionally, the School Board approved bidding for new lockers and benches for Hopkinsville Middle School and student accident insurance, as well as the purchase of Parent Square.

Parent Square will be the new parent, student, district communication tool. The yearly cost is $49,200 with an onboarding fee of $3,600. Johnna Brown, CCPS communications director explains it’s the gold star standard of communication within many districts. Brown also noted that Parent Square comes with the feature Docusign which the district is currently in need of. Superintendent Chris Bentzel said it will save the district money in the long run as they need to purchase Docusign which is $30,000 alone.

At the end of the meeting, District 1 Board Member Jeff Moore announced his resignation as he and his wife are moving. “It’s been a great time,” Moore said. “I want to thank Chris for what you have done, it has been a really neat season of life, thank you all.”
