PEMBROKE, KY– On Monday, September 9, the City of Pembroke was presented with a Freedom Flag by Freedom Flag Foundation Kentucky Ambassador Jane McKnight. Representative Myron Dossett, Mayor Jeanette Aldridge, City Clerk Todd Darnell, and Constable Sherry Bierline were present to accept the Freedom Flag on behalf of the City of Pembroke.

The Freedom Flag Foundation is an organization whose objective is to work with school systems across the United States to teach students about the tragic events and lives lost on September 11, 2001. The Freedom Flag symbolizes the events that occurred on 9/11 and honors the civilians, first responders, and military personnel who died that day.

Pembroke Mayor Jeanette Aldridge offered her thanks to Ms. McKnight and said, “I would like to thank the Freedom Flag Foundation for this flag. I along with so many of our citizens remember that day vividly and understand the importance of the work the foundation does teaching our young people about what happened that day and to remember and honor the lives that were lost.”

During the 2024 Session, Representative Dossett sponsored HB 219, which would allow the Freedom Flag to be flown on September 11. The bill passed the House, but it was not heard in the Senate.

“Ms. McKnight has worked with me in support of legislation to have Kentucky join other states in allowing the flying of the Freedom Flag in observance of 9/11,” said Dossett. “I will once again file legislation in the upcoming session and work for its passage to honor all souls lost that day when our nation was attacked.”
