HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Local vendors have come together to form the Merry Little Market every Sunday in November and December. Patty Starbird and Jeanell Fowler are hosting this market, with the hopes of creating more access to makers, crafters, and small business around the holidays.
Nearly a dozen rotating vendors will set up in the Clayton’s building each week to sell homemade goods, creating the perfect spot for the community to consistently support local vendors and get some holiday shopping in.
“There are a lot of people out there who are so talented,” Starbird told Christian County Now. “This is going to give us the opportunity to bring Sunday shopping downtown.” With renewed business downtown, including the reopening of Ro ‘Mae’s Soulfood and the upcoming Book & Bottle Shop next door, Starbird is hoping to bring Sunday’s downtown to life leading up to Christmas.
As the owner of Starbird Gourmet Popcorn, she is well versed in how competitive and expensive in can get for vendors who want to participate in various markets. “They are the backbone of our community,” said Starbird. “These are the people who are raising the families in our communities, so it’s important for us to shop small.”
Their goal was to have affordable registration, while rotating vendors to offer shoppers more of a variety. With a $25 vendor fee, Starbird and Fowler are hoping to attract vendors of various incomes.
The Merry Little Market will be open at 119 East Ninth Street on Sundays between Nov. 3 and Dec. 22 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The front and back entrance of Clayton’s will be open, with parking available behind the building on Tenth Street. Vendors interested in participating can text Patty Starbird at 270-305-3008.
