HOPKINSVILLE, KY – The City of Hopkinsville is proud to announce the dedication of the Coach William Falls Memorial Bridge, a tribute to a legendary basketball coach, mentor, and community leader.

The dedication ceremony will take place on December 4, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. on Lafayette Road near the intersection of Dell Drive. Members of the community are invited to join city officials, former players, and residents in honoring the legacy of Coach Falls, whose impact on Hopkinsville continues to inspire.

Coach William Falls served as a role model and advocate for young people throughout his life. He was a celebrated coach at Attucks High School, the city’s first public school for Black students, where he established a remarkable coaching record of 663 wins and 233 losses, leading the Attucks Wolves to two Kentucky High School Athletic League Championships. Following the integration of local schools in 1967,  Falls became an assistant coach at Hopkinsville High School, where he played a pivotal role in uniting players across racial lines during a transformative period in the community’s history.

In recognition of his remarkable contributions, Coach Falls was posthumously inducted into the Kentucky Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019 by his former players, who credit him with inspiring them both on and off the court. The dedication of the Coach William Falls Memorial Bridge celebrates his legacy as a coach, educator, and unifier. Attendees are encouraged to join us in honoring Coach Falls, whose life embodied the values of leadership, community, and service
