HOPKINSVILLE, KY – The Salvation Army is extending its heat relief efforts from last week to help our community cope with the extreme heat.
They are providing a cooling center at their facility, located at 313 East Seventh Street in Hopkinsville, open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily until Saturday, Aug. 10. Additionally, the Emergency Shelter will be open 24 hours a day through Saturday, Aug. 10. This extension allows the shelter program participants to stay inside during the hot daytime hours, when heat indexes are expected to surpass 100 degrees.
Lieutenant David Donegan, Corps Officer in Hopkinsville, expressed gratitude for the community’s support, stating, “We are deeply thankful for the outpouring of support from our community. Without your generosity, it would be impossible to provide these crucial resources to our most vulnerable neighbors.”
The most urgent need at this time is for cash donations to support the extended hours for both the shelter and the cooling center. If you would like to contribute, please mail checks to The Salvation Army, PO Box 427, Hopkinsville, KY 42241, or donate online at www.SalvationArmyHopkinsville.org. They are also in need of cases of bottled water for our shelter residents and cooling center.
