HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The case between the Save Jennie Stuart group and the Board of Directors of Jennie Stuart Hospital has been settled and dismissed as the merger proceeds with slightly different terms.

Previously, SJS filed a lawsuit to obtain a pause in the intended sale of Jennie Stuart Hospital to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana as a way to allow time to negotiate an agreement on more favorable terms for the community. SJS also hoped that Jennie Stuart Board would obtain an appraisal of the hospital for purpose of negotiation because that step in the sale process had not been taken.

In January, Eric Lee, CEO of Jennie Stuart Health stated that a lawsuit filed against the hospital has been dismissed. According to a news release from Save Jennie Stuart, since then the makeup of the Jennie Stuart committee negotiation deal was changed, and an effort was made to obtain more favorable terms for the sale. That proposal was supported by the Jennie Stuart Board on February 26, 2025.

A statement  from SJS says, “Although the members of SJS continue to oppose the takeover and mourn the loss of Jennie Stuart’s assets to an Evansville-based health care conglomerate, they hope the takeover will result in better medical care for the community and a continuation of the charitable contributions made by Jennie Stuart to the community over the years.”
