HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A Hopkinsville firefighter recently put his skills to the test while on vacation in Hawaii with his wife.
On Wednesday, James Pepper and his wife were about to take a picture on a pier at Big Island. Suddenly, they heard a woman scream and saw her pulling a limp man’s body out of the water. James rushed to the scene and helped the woman get the man out of the water and onto the beach.
“He was breathing at the time,” Pepper told Christian County Now. “Then he started turning real blue.” Pepper laid him down and tried to put him in a recovery position. The man went pulseless and stopped breathing.
Pepper began CPR and was able to bring the man back. “I did about a minute and half of CPR before he started breathing again,” Pepper said.
James Pepper’s wife, Rebecca proudly posted on Facebook after the event took place. She wrote, “Tonight I saw my amazing husband save a man’s life! I know what he does for a living is serious work, but I’ve never really seen it for myself firsthand.”
Pepper has been a Hopkinsville firefighter for seven years.
