HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Deneka Duerson, owner of Fun Zone in Hopkinsville, is hosting a series of events throughout September to support Bentley, who is battling childhood cancer. Duerson was moved by the cause and sought to offer support, especially with September being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

“I made a post on Facebook and found Bentley and his family that way. I wanted to help a family in need,” Duerson said.

During the fundraise, Fun Zone will operate with extended hours and feature activities like sensory bins, arts and crafts, a movie night, and a new event called Pancakes and Playdates. “They can come in and play and we will offer breakfast for the adults and the children,” Duerson said.

A portion of the proceeds from all activities and admission fees will be donated to Bentley’s family. Duerson aims to raise $500 but hopes to exceed that goal. She encourages everyone to get involved. “People can donate, show up for activities, purchase a play pass, or just help spread the word about childhood cancer. They can even just wear yellow this month to show support.”

Looking ahead, Fun Zone plans to support another child each September in following years and contribute to more families in need. This is the first time Duerson organized such an event, and plans to include additional activities in the future.
