HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Christian County Literacy Council and The Bruce Convention Center along with several other organizations is hosting a Holidaze community festival on Monday, Dec. 4, from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

The free event will feature holiday activities, including story time, pictures with Santa Claus, and a variety of food, door prizes and more.

Holidaze came together last year when Pam Hale, the director of sales at Hampton Inn, wanted to get more involved in the community. “I went to a newcomers lunch-in and met several people from the literacy council,” Hale said. “I thought to myself maybe they are interested in doing a waffles with Santa event.”

What started out as a simple waffles with Santa grew into so much more. Hale and other members in the community worked together to bring the first Holidaze at The Bruce. “We had planned it only a month in advance and our goal was to have every child receive a free book,” Hale said.

With 350 guests attending, Hale and her team were unable to meet that goal but this year they are more than prepared to do so. “What’s so great about this years event is every child will receive a free book along with crafts, popcorn, hot cocoa and more,” Hale said.

This year, Holidaze is expecting to see 800-1,000 children. There will be different activity stations throughout The Bruce to make reindeer food, take a picture with Santa, write a letter to Santa, build a Christmas tree, make pancake art, and play a variety of games. There will also be a sensory friendly area for children and their families.

“We want parents to be able to take their children to do something fun, free and in a good environment,” Hale said. “So many businesses have donated their time and money to help make this happen.”

Although everyone is invited, Holidaze is geared towards PreK- sixth grade children and families. “Our goal is for this to become an annual thing,” Hale said. “We are so excited.”
