HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Hopkinsville Beautification is celebrating Earth Day with their yearly tradition of planting flowers and filling pots downtown.

With the help from Christian County High School agriculture students, all the downtown planters and gardens will be filled on April 22, according to Heather Braun with Hopkinsville Beautification.

“They were the ones who grew the plants, and we love giving them a chance to plant them downtown,” Braun said. She also noted this will be the fifth year they have student assistance.

Plants from the Christian County High School greenhouse will fill up over fifty planters downtown including the four long planters at Founder’s Square, and the long garden bed at the Train Depot. They will plant petunia, canna, begonia, lantana, vinca, miniature sunflowers, and verbena for the planters.

Braun says she will also be planting salvia, sage, and basil in the beds by Founder’s Square in recognition of the farmer’s market. “Of course, I have a variety of other plants as well, these are just some of them,” Braun said.
