HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – During his address to the Hopkinsville Rotary Club on Tuesday, Executive Director Terrence Davis unveiled a host of thrilling developments on the horizon for the Boys and Girls Club.
Davis revealed that construction is well underway on a 2,000 square foot expansion designated for a Teen FabLab. Additionally, he announced the successful demolition of the stadium adjacent to the club, paving the way for the construction of an elementary wing in the future.
He also shared with Rotary members that the club typically welcomes 90 children daily. Despite its smaller size relative to others, the Hopkinsville Boys and Girls Club consistently outperforms every other club nationwide, as noted by Davis. Additionally, Davis has earned recognition as one of the top five CEOs among Boys and Girls Clubs nationwide.
“We find ourselves in an amazing spot, and none of this would be possible without the support of this community,” remarked Davis.
FabLab programs and new initiatives
The FabLab will provide children with valuable hands-on experience in technology. Davis emphasized his intention to prioritize career and workforce development this summer. Following the completion of the expansion, Davis and his team aim to establish a t-shirt and 3D printing enterprise, empowering the children to take charge of the operation and get paid for doing so.
“As our kids graduate, we want them ready to be able to compete in the 21st century workforce,” Davis said. He also noted how the club aims to be on the cutting edge.
Starting this summer, six kids from the club will be doing an internship program where they will job shadow professionals in the community. One more project the club is working on is a tween center as sixth grade moves back to middle school.
“We need to find a space for them, and we have one more spot we have not used that we are looking to add on to,” Davis said.
