HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Dust off your dictionaries and brush up on spelling skills for the upcoming Big Bee Spelling Bee for adults. Hosted by Visit Hopkinsville and created by their executive director Amy Rogers, the event promises an evening of friendly competition and community at the Hopkinsville Brewing Co. on Aug. 1 at 6 p.m.

The idea came to Rogers after Hopkinsville hosted the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee two times with a successful outcome. Rogers says she had many folks from the community inquire about the possibility of hosting an adult spelling bee.

“So, I reached out to the Literacy Council with this idea, and the rest, as they say, is history,” Rogers said.

Aspiring spellers and word enthusiasts alike are invited to secure their place in the spelling bee by purchasing a $20 speller ticket on the Visit Hopkinsville website by July 26. All proceeds will go towards benefitting the Christian County Literacy Council, making this not only a battle of words but also a chance to contribute to a worthy cause.

“I’m excited that we’ve found a unique opportunity for our community to engage in, while focusing on the importance of literacy and education,” said Rogers.

Participants can expect a night of fun and entertainment, Rogers told Christian County Now. Those not participating can watch the event for free. For more information contact Amy Rogers at arogers@visithopkinsville.com or the Literacy Council at cc42240@gmail.com.
