HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Goodwill in Hopkinsville is currently closed for an undetermined amount of time after a harmful carbon monoxide leak was detected by emergency services.
On Friday afternoon, the Hopkinsville Fire Department was requested at the Goodwill on Fort Campbell Boulevard after two patients received medical treatment for suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. Payton Rogers with HFD says they were able to confirm a leak due to the level of carbon monoxide in the building. The store was initially ventilated, evacuated and then closed as a precaution.
It was rechecked the next day, July 11, before opening and was monitored during business hours. By 3 p.m. the levels had risen back up to an unsafe level and the store was evacuated and ventilated again.
HFD ultimately found a lead in the HVAC system which was causing the issues. Rogers told Christian County Now that the business will remain closed to ensure the safety of the workers and customers until they can ensure it is mitigated properly.
