HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – For the 32nd year, the Hopkinsville-Human Rights Commission is hosting their annual Black History Trivia Bowl on Saturday, Feb. 15, kicking off at Hopkinsville Community College’s Auditorium Building at 9 a.m.

“Since 1992, the Black History Trivia Bowl has offered youth of this region an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of African Americans over the history of our country,” said HRC Executive Director Raychel Farmer.

In 2024, Northeast High School in Clarksville, Tennessee took first place, breaking Greater Missionary Baptist Church’s three-year winning streak. Youth teams in grades 5-12 will be participating, displaying their accumulated knowledge. The competition will run similarly to academic tournaments with a double elimination bracket.

Seven teams are registered from local schools, churches, and organizations to battle it out. Participants will compete by answering questions related to Black History which cover a diverse range of categories including, arts, business and education, entertainment, history, politics and military, science and exploration, and sports. Although team registration is closed, Farmer says they are still in need of volunteers for the day. To register as a volunteer and for more information, contact the HRC office at 270-887-4010 or email info@hrchoptown.org.

Adults who want to form teams and put their history knowledge to the test are invited to participate in a Trivia Night on Thursday, Feb. 20 at Davo’s Restaurant. The games will begin at 6 p.m., food and drinks will be available for purchase. Pre-registration is encouraged by contacting the HRC office but not required.
